The Ancestral Temple of Emperor Guan in Haizhou was founded in the ninth year of the Kaihuang reign of the Sui Dynasty (589 AD). It was a large-scale temple built by the official site in the most prosperous part of Guan Gong's hometown to commemorate him 370 years after he returned to heaven. It has a history of over 1400 years. It adopts a royal palace style layout with a symmetrical central axis, consisting of Jieyi Garden, Zhengmiao Temple, and Guandi Imperial Garden. It covers an area of more than 380 acres and is the earliest, largest, highest established, and most fully preserved Guandi Temple in China. It is known as the "ancestor of Guanmiao" and "crown of Wumiao" and was announced as the third batch of national key cultural relics protection units in 1988.
